Location: College Grove, TN
Pets in the home: 1 dog (Frenchie)
Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Start date: ASAP
Commitment: The family is looking for a long-term educator who can grow with them but is also open to a short-term hire for the remainder of this school year.
Compensation: $35 - $50 per hour (dependent on qualifications)
About the Family: A warm and close-knit family who recently relocated from Florida is seeking an experienced and dedicated Homeschool Teacher/Instructor for their two older boys, ages 13 and 11. After going remote in 2020 and enlisting the help of a private tutor, this family realized their older children took better to private education and it worked well for their lifestyle as well. Both children follow an Orton-Gillingham based curriculum and require enrichment in math and sciences. They are dyslexic and need a patient, engaging, and structured educator who can tailor lessons to their unique learning needs. The family lives on a large property with a designated schooling room and ample outdoor learning space. While they have two younger children and another on the way, no childcare duties will be required as they have a dedicated full-time nanny.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implement, guide, tutor, and monitor the progress of both children within their homeschool curriculum.
- Adapt teaching methods to support the children’s learning needs, specifically in literacy, math, and sciences.
- Utilize the Orton-Gillingham approach effectively to enhance reading and comprehension skills.
- Encourage a love for learning through engaging lessons, both in a structured indoor setting and through outdoor exploration.
- Track progress, assess strengths and challenges, and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
- Maintain open communication with parents regarding educational development and adjustments as needed.
- Provide flexibility to accommodate the family’s travel schedule.
- Communicate the children's progress with parents often
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certified teacher or experienced homeschool educator with a strong background in implementing homeschool curriculum.
- Familiarity with or training in the Orton-Gillingham approach is highly preferred, but not required.
- Experience working with children with specialized needs (in this case dyslexia)
- Strong proficiency in math and sciences with the ability to create enriching, hands-on learning experiences.
- Ability to provide structure while also incorporating creativity and adaptability into lessons.
- Patient, nurturing, and able to foster a positive and encouraging learning environment.
- Willingness to be somewhat flexible with scheduling due to family travel.
If you are a passionate and experienced homeschool educator looking for a rewarding role in a family-centered environment, we encourage you to apply!
